Students wishing to audition should arrive by 10 a.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours.  Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions. Rehearsals will be held at the Artcraft Theatre, one block south of the Museum. There are roles for students entering first grade through twelfth grade.

Students must be entering first grade to be eligible.

Approximately 50 - 60 students will be cast to appear in the show with the Missoula Children’s Theatre Actor/ Directors. In addition, four students will be selected as Assistant Directors and will aid in rehearsals throughout the week and take on essential backstage responsibilities.

There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. It is a group audition - no advance preparation is necessary, but a SMILE never hurts! Students should just come ready to have a good time. If your child is chosen to be in the play, the cost for the program is $50. A limited number of scholarships are available though, so please don’t let the cost deter you from having your child audition!

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required from their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4.5 hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch. Lunch will be at NOON daily. Snacks will also be provided.

The performances are on Saturday, June 17, 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Artcraft Theatre

All students in the cast will be called for a dress rehearsal before the performance on Saturday, June 18. The times for the one hour performances on Saturday, June 17 are 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
All of the cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

The Secret Garden

Adapted by Michael McGill
Music and lyrics by Michael McGill
The Secret Garden, an original Missoula Children’s Theatre rendition, is a joyful retelling of a story of hope and celebration and all good things in life. Mistress Mary Quite Contrary embarks on a journey from India to her uncle’s home in England.  Along the way she makes friends with the hilarious Canadian Geese and the colorful Giant Bugs that Rock! In time she learns to appreciate everything around her, including the Moor Animals and the helpful Fireflies. Add to that a good healthy dose of caring, and what happens? Colin, Martha, Archibald – well, the whole household - begin to enjoy the return of health and happiness in a garden carefully tended…until it blossoms once more.

Free workshops

Stage makeup
TUESDAY, JUNE 13
Grades 6-8

Makeup is the foundation and the most basic visual image for all performers. This workshop teaches students of all ages by demonstrating (on a few participants) character and special effects makeup for the theatre. Please note, this workshop is specific to theatre makeup techniques and is not a “face painting” experience.
Acting
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14
Grades 1-3
The basic tools of an actor’s trade - observation, memorization, concentration, and imagination are presented and explored in an entertaining manner. The students participate in a variety of fun exercises, learning to apply the actor’s tools to both performing and everyday life.
Drama Quest: Adventures in Antarctica
THURSDAY, JUNE 15
Grades 3-5
A grand adventure in the world’s largest desert, Antarctica, awaits! Using active and energetic role-playing in a dynamic group setting, students will develop problem-solving skills by engaging their communication and imagination skills. Your students will have so much fun - they won’t realize that they’re learning!
