Behind the scenes of The Historic Artcraft Theatre is a group of volunteers – the supporting cast that keeps each show running and greets moviegoers with a smile. These volunteers help Franklin Heritage, Inc (FHI) with everything from popping popcorn, renovations, greeting guests during weekend showings, and decorating for the holidays. Their work ensures visitors can leave life at the door and be carried into the world of the movies. This week, we are interviewing Artcraft volunteer Connie Hill. Connie has volunteered for Franklin Heritage, Inc. for eleven years. She is also a board member of FHI, where she has served for two years. I sat with Connie to discuss why she enjoys volunteering at the Artcraft. Q: What do you do for the theatre when you volunteer?
A: I do everything from working on restorations, being the greeter during weekend movies, to occasionally helping out at Madison St. Salvage. I also have the privilege of being a Board member. Q: If you could pick a movie to show at the Artcraft, what would it be and why? A: This is the hardest question. I enjoy so many different types of films it is very hard to choose. Being a volunteer has provided me with the opportunity to view movies I would not normally watch. Some of those I have really liked and others not so much, but I'm always glad I tried them. I would therefore have to say surprise me! That is always the most fun! Q: What is your favorite concession snack? A: My favorite concession snack is Raisenettes! Q: Why do you volunteer at the Artcraft? A: It always seemed to be the right thing to do. Once we (my husband Mike and I) moved here from Illinois, we started volunteering and it just snowballed into a part of our life. We now consider the Artcraft to be family. It is also very satisfying to be part of the group that has changed and continues to change the Artcraft back into the beautiful theater it once was. Q: What is your favorite part about volunteering? A: The people that I work with and the people that visit. It is so much fun introducing new patrons to the Artcraft and welcoming back friends each weekend. ___________ Are you interested in volunteering at The Historic Artcraft Theatre?
